Expect your first session to begin with a thorough consultation and assessment. It may be prudent to bring a pair of shorts and a sports vest with you.
This is your treatment. To get the best out of each session be open to discussing any aims and primary concerns as well as your health and lifestyle frankly and honestly. If you have had bodywork before then it is useful to know what techniques were helpful and even what wasn't.
If you are taking medication, please bring a list with you so we can have a discussion and work out together what would be of greatest benefit to you. Whether that is a longer/shorter session, focused work on a particular area such as neck and shoulders or somehting else.
Expect to start and end with a short consultation and exam - just as a check in, so that your practitioner is aware of any issues that are of particular concern to you as well as any changes that may have arisen since your last visit. It is our goal to continue to support you through out your course of treatments, and in our experience, communication, mutual understanding and respect are key elements in supporting you to gain the most out of each individual session.
For clinical treatments that use a massage medium such as oil or wax, skin to skin contact achieves the most optimal results. You will be asked to undress to your preferred level of comfort, (ensuring that you keep your underwear on at all times,) before lying down on the treatment table.
For those who are prefer not to get undressed, Acupressure Massage, Reiki or Bowen treatments maybe preferred, as these treatments work through loose fitting and light weight clothing that is not impinged by movement.
In any event you will be draped with sheets, blankets &/or towels, during your treatment.
As it is not unusual to feel relaxed or cooler afterwards, we would recommend that you bring something warm to leave with. A refreshing glass of water before you leave can help with the effects of being too chilled out.
Please note: All treatments are therapeutic and non sexual. Any requests to be inappropriately uncovered will not be tolerated by your therapist. They have the right to leave without providing a treatment should such a situation arise, with the full cost of the treatment being forfeit.
A series of 6 sessions is recommended initially as it is well known that it can take a while before we, when working together, find your optimal treatment plan and all holistic benefits become fully apparent.
A course of sessions when taken over a short period of time allow the benefits gained to be cumulative, providing you with sustained improvement whereas lengthy breaks between treatments, whilst beneficial in their own respect, lose this additional momentum and support.
How well you respond to sessions, your aims and expectations for the future will determine how we, whilst working in conjunction, proceed. Perhaps you want to run a marathon in 6 months time, in which event by working together we can come up with a treatment regime and plan that supports you to achieve that goal and feel better for it after. Perhaps it is as simple as managing and coping with life stresses in which case having a regular monthly session may be the most beneficial.
